Bauhaus Modell

I was in the model-making department of a German toy store, earnestly admiring their selection of faux foliage for train landscapes when I thought...

maybe it is time to start working again.

Here is what my free time looked like this week.

Last week in Berlin I bought a template to build my own Bauhaus-style family model home.

It can be tedious and challenging to model make, especially when the instructions are not only in German but OLD German language that not even your native German Husband can translate.

It was proof that visual Design is a universal language.

To see a form built before your eyes is always exciting to me.. even if it is scale is tiny.

Most of it is in German. . . viel spaß!

Berlin

Bardenburger tor metro graphics.

Bar on the river.

Lots of graffiti.

Waiting for the train.

"Better to be a Lion for one day, than a sheep your whole life."

You see that car, right?

Abandoned warehouse now used as a dance club. It was still going strong at 9 AM.

I don't think I'm cool enough to actually live here,

but what an eccentric weekend.

A little more complex than DC's rail system.

But at least you can bring your coffee on.

Kreuzburg. East Berlin.

Of course, McDonalds.

Lots of new development around here.

Checkpoint Charlie.

Apple's great on so many different scales.

Berlin Feresehturm.

Bundestag.

Train station.

Things dress up around the Stadt Mitte.

Bundestag and Modern Art Museum.

Bauhaus love.

Night life. . .

Kreuzburg's Oranienstrasse at night.

Lamp specialty shop.

I liked the chaos.

Gießen

The City of Gießen has charm.

Homes are sometimes simple in color and form . . .

. . . and sometimes homes are piled on top of retail stores with popping graphics and in bright colors

Either way, the walls are always very thick and the structures can withstand anything.

Coffee is Big.

Entrances are often filled with flowers.

This is my Father in Law's hand made mail box. Note the computer keys.

There is a lot old stuff. Like these keys and scale.

Architecture has humor. Follow this path to park your VW.

Pink House.

Flowers are inexpensive and EVERYWHERE this time of year.

Older buildings often have graphics built right into the structure.
